James has spent more than 14 years working across different parts of the construction industry.

Joinery. Windows. Doors. Cabinetry. Glazing. Caulking. Earthworks. Drainage. Concreting. Civil landscaping.

Different jobs. Different sites. Different problems to solve.

Over the years, all of it has added up to a broad set of practical skills - and the ability to look at a property problem, work out what needs doing and get stuck into it.

James had talked about running his own business for years.

After more than a decade working across construction, repair and maintenance, he'd picked up a pretty broad set of skills.

But thinking about starting something of his own wasn't going to make it happen.
​
James is also a partner and dad to 4 kids, so starting GPW wasn't exactly a small decision.
But after years of talking about working for himself, eventually it came down to: stuff it. Give it a crack.
​
Plenty of other people had built businesses of their own. Why couldn't he?
​
GPW was about having the freedom to do work he could genuinely be proud of - done his way, with his name attached to it.

Being straight about what a job needs. Giving someone a clear idea of what they're agreeing to. Letting them know when something changes. Respecting the fact that while it's a job site to us, it's still your property.

Because doing the job properly isn't just about how it looks when we're finished.

It's how we get there, too.
